Thank you times for being the paper with a strategic lead to national discuss.

On the current discuss in Nigeria on gas flaring, I wish ask a few questions, is this a policy on gas flaring in Nigeria? If yes, is there a clare objective linked to achievable targets?

If you take a clear look, the answer is an emphatic No. The flares out policy, I must mention is purely a policy of SPDC which the OPTS adopted and finally the OBJ administration highjacked. But since government in Nigeria is about short term gains, no effort was put in place to ensure achievement. The Nigerian government is waiting for SPDC again to find a solution that politicians can then highjack.

How on earth will so called expert call for an outright ban when they do not even have any statistics of how this can be achieved. Any arbitrary target can never be achieved.

I therefore call on the National Assembly and the Minister for environment to parley the OPTS and review what is and what ought to be and finally set quantifiable targets considering the costs implication, the availability of technical know-how, the security situation in the Niger Delta etc. That way, we can move forward.

Again, rash short term praises has never been a sustainable solution.

Thanks for providing valuable information with little or no financial support compared to newspapers and the like. However, I haven't seen any reporting on the Ibori story by thetimesofnigeria compared to other news sources. For a while, you only covered Ibori's version of stories and you haven't talked about or published the affidavits EFCC submitted to the Fed Court in Benin, you haven't reported on Ibori's wife being arrested.
I will like to hear more about those stories since you have access to priviledged information.

Thanks
Ostin Nwosisi

Editor's Note:
Dear Nwosisi,
First, thank you for being a valued reader of our newspaper. I think you spoke too soon. The arrest of Theresa Ibori is currently our lead story.
