Militants killed two policemen and one civilian Tuesday in an attack on the premises of US oil services company Wilbros in southern Nigeria, a military officer said.
“The Joint Task Force confronted them and they fled,” Major Musa Sagir, spokesman for the Task Force in the southern state of Rivers, told AFP.
He said the incident happened near the oil and gas export terminal of Bonny but had no further details.
Deadly attacks on oil company installations and personnel and on government targets in the Niger Delta are commonplace. The gunmen mostly claim to be fighting for a more equitable share in Nigeria’s oil revenues to go to local communities.
