THE campaign headquarters of Edo State governorship candidate of the Action Congrress (AC) Adams Oshiomhole, was on Sunday stormed by gunmen.
The hoodlums ransacked the office on Jemide Avenue, Government Reservation Area (GRA) Benin and reportedly destroyed properties worth millions of niara.
“They were more like armed robbers”, Oshiomhole told reporters in Benin yesterday.
“All I know is that some people with arms attacked the office, fired gunshots and macheted some people.
“In fact, they were more like armed robbers because after vandalising the place, everybody that was around the place was harrassed and their properties seized. But, we are still trying to establish who precisely is behind it and what was their motive, why did they come there, what did they seek to achieve and who could have mobilised them to do it.
“We have reported to the police and I want to believe the police are investigating. We cannot say whether it’s the opposition party or whatever. But, we want to be certain because in matters like this, you need to be very very certain to know who was behind it and their motive,” Oshiomhole said.
He added that “about three buses were destroyed and they also smashed some of the windows and some of the glass doors and several other things were destroyed.
“I cannot estimate right away because I am not a quantity surveyor, but we should be looking at about N2 million or N3 million”, he said.
When The Nation visited yesterday, it was discovered that the doors leading to the offices were smashed. The windscreens of some vehicles that were parked within and outside the premises were also destroyed.
