The Rivers State chapter of the Action Congress (AC) has condemned the attack that killed three police officers last week by unknown gunmen in the state. “We find it unfathomable to understand the rationale behind the recent attack and killing of some innocent Police Men at the Akinama Police Station, Ahoada West Local Government Area”
A statement released by Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, media consultant to Tonye Princewill Campaign Organization said the attack was a calculated attempt to bring the government to disrepute.
“What ever may be the thinking of any body about this, we should not in any way condone evil understanding that the sanctity of human life is related to God and any act that involves killing of any fellow human being talk less our own brothers is not only a sin against the people of Niger Delta region but against God who is the Sole Creator of human life. To us, involving such a barbaric act to the cause of fighting for the wrongs on our region by the past administrations in Nigeria is to us uncivilized, uncultured, unwarranted and unfortunate way of attracting attention to the plights of our State and region.
“Our position is informed by the patriotic efforts of the Federal Government and the administration of Rotimi Amaechi to attend and solve most of the myriad problems facing our people created by the visionless past administrations in the State and the region- why not encourage President Musa Yar’adua and Governor RotimI Amachi to attend to these issues instead of these unwarranted distractions? As we continue to point out; we have no other State to call ours but Rivers State and it should be our collective effort to build the State and stop watching some misguided miscreants to continue to portray us as a people without souls and fear of human sanctity.
“Our position in solving most of the problems confronting our State and region is dialoguing and marshalling out good ideas to both the States in Niger Delta and the Federal Government and not the current ugly and awkward trend of kidnapping innocent and aged people of our region, killing of security agents or any other nefarious act. We are happy to note of the concerted effort of President Yar-adua to bring succour to our people and the present Federal Government at the centre has appointed our sons to key offices, not only having our own son as the number two citizen of this country but most of the Security Chiefs are from our region – are we trying to undermine the positions of these our sons which we may not likely get again if we continue with this unproductive venture? We should ponder a little and think on the best way of going about our problems. In this regard we are calling all the elders, stakeholders, Religious, Traditional and Political Leaders to fashion out a modality to stem this ugly tide before it gets out of control.”
“Finally, we must commend and congratulate Governor Rotimi Amaechi for directing the Local Government Councils in Rivers State to compile the list of our unemployed youths with hope of providing employment or granting them mans of survival. We urge other States of the Federation to emulate this gesture in order to curtail criminal activities among our youths and stem the tide of armed robbery incidents in the country.” The statement concluded.
